Common Questions
What is 3D printing?
3D printing takes printing into a whole new dimension. It’s a way of making real objects from digital designs. Just like how a regular printer puts ink onto paper to make pictures, a 3D printer puts down layers of printed material on top of each other to create physical things. It’s a way of turning your wildest imagination into something you can hold in your hand!
What file formats do you accept for 3D printing?
In order to produce real-life objects, 3D printing uses specific digital file formats that include 3D models, and instructions that tell the printer how to produce the model layer-by-layer. The most common file type is the .STL format, however other formats like .3MF, .OBJ, and .STEP are also used, each with its own advantages and applications. These files are created using CAD or 3D modeling software, where you can design and shape your object however you like.
What materials can be used to 3D print with?
There are many different types of material that can be used in 3D printing. The most common materials we use include thermoplastics like PLA, ABS/ASA, and PETG, however materials with more rubber-elastic like properties such as TPU or stronger and more durable materials like nylon and polycarbonate are all within our printing capabilities. There are even fun variations, such as wood infused, multi-colour transitions, and even glow in the dark filaments.
What file formats do you accept for laser cutting & engraving?
We work with vector files for cutting and raster images for engraving. Preferred formats include .SVG, .AI, and .DXF for vector graphics, and .PNG or .PDF for raster images.
What type of laser equipment do you use?
We have not just one, but two different laser cutting machines to cover a wide range of materials and uses.
Our 50W CO2 laser provides us with a larger work area and can cut through almost anything we put under it, while our 60W MOPA fiber laser provides multi-colour marking and even deep engraving of metals, and with it’s galvo laser head it has speed that is unmatched by it’s larger CO2 counterpart, and it’s MOPA technology allows for precision to safely engrave various materials that would otherwise not be suitable for high-powered lasers.
What materials can be cut or engraved with lasers?
Our CO2 and MOPA lasers cover a large a variety of materials including wood, acrylic, paper, glass, leather, and even most metals. Some materials such as PVC (vinyl) are not possible, however, due to the chemical reaction that occurs which produce extremely toxic reactions (fortunately we have a plotter for vinyl cutting purposes).
